03:46 pm - THE CHATTERBOX: Leah Clearwater
The enthusiasm and general love of Leah Clearwater I have seen in the Twilight recaps has inspired me to make a Chatterbox thread devoted to the beautiful wolf-girl herself. So come one, come all! Bring forth your fannish glee, your fanart, your spitefics, your anything, so long as it relates to Leah Clearwater. Anything goes! We are the Knights Who Say Leah!

HUZZAH!

So, I'm thinking of a list of other fictional worlds we'd like to transplant Leah to. Obviously, the answer is "All of them", but which ones do we think she'd adapt best to?

Ones already mentioned:
- Tellius (Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn) The suggestion mainly came up because of Queen Nailah, another badass wolf-shifting lady, but the general opinion is that Fire Emblem would be a good series for her, medieval setting aside, since it already recognizes its ladies as the awesome BAMFs they are. Out of the whole franchise, though, Tellius is the one she'd probably do best in, since she'd fit right in with the laguz. Also, badass wolf-shifting ladies going out for a drink together.

- Buffyverse (Has this been mentioned? I'm pretty sure it is) Basically, she'd make a good Scooby and/or member of Angel's team. Also I kind of want to see her chat with Anya, or wonder how she got stuck with the stupid vampires.

Can't think of any others off the top of my head, so what about you guys?

I don't think that'd be a good question to ask. A better question is how she'd adapt to which one since she'd adapt to best suit each universe.

Buffy makes the most sense (though so much sarcastic wit in one show might cause the universe to implode). I would love to see her hang out with Anya, spar with Buffy herself, and more.

...I think this needs to be a thing, actually.

Other than that...in terms of what makes sense, maybe Harry Potter? I mean, the Harry Potter world is supposed to exist on top of our own anyway.

Leah Clearwater, werewolf activist! Because you KNOW she'd be pissed off by the Wizarding World's dickish attitude toward werewolves.

My Lady Fair! *kisses her hand*

I am humbly at your command, o fairest of all. Your knight, your servant, your slave if you wish. I would delightedly bring you the heads of all who would dare to besmirch your name. Only but name them, bright one, and they shall be given their just punishment. I desire not reward, nor praise, nor thanks from you, for merely serving you and announcing your majesty to the world is reward enough in its own right,

Your qualities are many and great. You nobly rejected the path chosen for you by fate. You were most unfairly left by that unworthy worm Sam and were wrongly persecuted for being angry, and yet you persevered. Oh, that we all might have such strength. You are the lone oasis of logic in an inane world, and you graciously bestow your wisdom upon the undeserving wretches who callously ignore it.

My sword and loyalty are ever yours, my Lady Leah.

How about sticking Leah in the Shadow Hearts series? Shifting as Meyer describes it would actually translate very well into a variation of Spirit Fusion.

On another note, is there any clue as to who Leah's real-world inspiration is? Because it was pretty obvious in the case of the other scary sues.

Leah needs friends, people who treat her well. I say the main party from Nier, who are mostly outcasts themselves, would be great friends because they look out for one another and they won't call her a bitter harpy whenever she's around. Whenever she fights or does something awesome, which is often, I hear Miracle of Sound's Savage Side of Me or Crucible playing.

Steampunk Leah?

(Link)
Umm, I wonder how Leah would do in Steampunk. A book series I've recently finished called Parasol Protectorate has some werewolves, vampires, and some other unusual yet cool stuff that Leah could relate to.

I can see Leah be like Madame Lefoux, who's a tom-boy and invents the coolest things. Umm, Leah the inventor? I like it.

Leah could totally work for the B.U.R. office. She needs to live in this universe. I can see her partnering with Lyall and working a cases, or being that one detective who always insist on going solo as she runs around London in clothing easy to phase in.
Can you imagine Lyall trying to get her to wear civilized clothing? Leah in a bustle. Leah in a corset. Try to phase in and out of that.
And the minute you said Madame Lefoux, I shipped it. The absolute minute. Lefoux as the beta to Leah's alpha, a pack of two, ruling underground London through steampunky technology and werewolf badassery. It would be a thing of beauty.

This needs to be a thing.

Not really into DMC (though yes, it is far better than where she is now), so can't comment on that.

And hell yeah, Dresden Files! She could join the Alphas and be in a pack that would actually care about her.

The Battle Hymn of Leah's Knights

(Link)
Mine eyes have been subject to a most dreadful plight
An abomination in the form of a saga called Twilight
Yet, among the purple prose and misogynistic blight
Her Awesome marches on!

Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Her Awesome marches on!

I have seen her in the circle of Samuel Uley's pack
The wolf whose gleaming pelt doth match his heart of charr'ed black
Yet, even as his subordinates do stab her in the back
Her Awesome marches on!

Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Her Awesome marches on!

In her quest for freedom, she hath joined the pack of Jacob
Because she is not welcome in Sam Uley's little club
Yet, even when she must take orders from a spoiled, whiny cub
Her Awesome marches on!

Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Her Awesome marches on!

Such total hotness is unequaled among the Quileute tribe
Any sporker wisely knows she's better off with a diff'rent scribe
And in our headcanon, she gives the packs a much-deserv'ed diatribe
Her Awesome marches on!

Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Her Awesome marches on!

And so we pledge our troth to her, our Lady Wolf comrade
To defend her from the spars of a series so horrendously bad
We'll throw a kegger for her, Emmett Cullen and Mustache Dad!
Their Awesome will march on!

Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Leah, Leah, Leah Clearwater!
Her Awesome marches on!

To the tune of The Battle Hymn of the Republic. Because my currently-doped-up-on-antibiotics brain figured we needed a theme song.

Hmm... I wonder how Leah would fare in the Shikiverse. Certainly the werewolves there are pretty badass. She probably wouldn't take kindly to being expected to help serve the vampires, because she stands out for being a good person in a psychopathic world--I doubt she'd take kindly to having to join up with people who routinely do really terrible things (which, in fairness, she'd have to do no matter which side she took--it is very much that kind of story). But at least she could try to put up a fight against these characters without being made to look like a bad person in the process! Or maybe she'd become a brave, strong martyr who was killed by the more powerful werewolves because she steadfastly refused to give herself an advantage over them by drinking human blood.

I would be interested to see how she and my favorite character, Masao, got along, though. Would she beat him up like everyone else does, or would she try to understand and befriend him since she knows what it's like to be at the bottom of the group's totem pole? Damn, now I wanna see fanfiction....

How about wildly inappropriate universes? Like, she could be a revolutionary in Les Miserables (and heroically take down an entire company of cannons before being killed) or she could be a Pokémon trainer, training a team of dogs and wolves only (her rival only uses the Zubat line and Woobat line).

If we do Pokemon, she should be the Champion that helps the protagonist fight the two evil teams - one based off the Cullens and the other based off the wolf pack - complete with a double battle Leah and the protagonist have against the villain team bosses (who could be either Sam/Carlisle or Edward/Jacob). And yes, her team should be consisted of the dog-like Pokemon, which in my opinion are among the better Pokemon in the game. Something like Arcanine, Lucario, Absol/Houndoom/Zoroark (just one of those three, since they're all dark types), Stoutland, and an Eveelution (which is somewhat dog-like, cat-like and fox-like).

Pondering on the non-imprinted wolves

(Link)
After checking out the werewolf section of the official guide, I discovered that the only wolves that weren't imprinted upon were the following:

The 13-year-olds Brady Fuller and Collin Littlesea (and the latter of the two is, apparently, nursing a crush on Leah). There's 16-year-old Embry Call (who Leah reportedly talked smack about, at one point, for his uncertain parentage). After that, there's Leah's own brother, Seth.

Not much of a dating pool left for Leah, a beautiful grown woman. Srsly SMeyer, the only available wolves are her own brother, two children, and the strapping young lad you didn't give enough of a shit about to say who his father actually is?

Just for that, my new headcanon 'ships Leah/Embry as the rightful Alpha Male and Female over the two packs, sans imprinting. They clearly both got the fuzzy end of the lollipop. Come on over to the anti side, you two. You'll get better treatment from us!*

*Not that Mervin's "For You, I Will" wasn't creeptastically brilliant, but it only made me pity Embry more...

Re: Pondering on the non-imprinted wolves

I've noticed that a lot of werewolf fiction/TV these days seems to ignore the fact that pack leaders are almost always mated pairs, in having either one leader or making "alphas" a specific type or something.

I know that since they're fantastical creatures, they don't exactly have to follow rules, but I'd be interested to see a universe where werewolves resemble real wolves: they go around in family groups, and once the children get old enough they leave to find a mate and their own territory, or simply to wander.

I mean, its not like I'd sell the t-shirts. Just seems like a cool thing to have on a t-shirt.

Vaguely related fic-ery

(Link)
Okay. So, I write a series of Time Loop fics - mainly focusing around the MLP fandom, but because of the nature of Loop fics they have regular crossovers.
And I thought I'd use them to rescue Leah.
And it kind of got out of hand. As in, now I feel like spinning off a subset for her.
Link to current state to follow.
(Warning: the MLP Loops fic has had a LOT of things happen in it. Please be assured that there is at least AN explanation for most of the powers the MLPverse characters are using.)
Most of it is copied from the MLP Loops fic, but 1.2 and 1.3 are new and Twilight-only.

Time Loops fic stuff involving Leah

(Link)
Hi.
I don't have a LJ account, so I'm posting as a guest, but my screen name is Saphroneth (I can be found on DA, in case the link below has expired). As with many others, I suspect, the plight of poor Leah drove me to fic.

In my case, I put her in as an Anchor in my Time Loops fics.

The Time Loops setting, started by someone else but heavily contributed to by myself, is one in which a large number of fictional worlds are time looping. Groundhog day sort of thing. In my case, the main loop I follow the story of is for My Little Pony.
Don't judge me.
Anyway. Anchors are the person who is always looping. Others may or may not, depending.
In the most recent but one chapter of the MLP Loops, I wrote one where Leah Clearwater ended up in the MLPverse instead of her own setting for once (something which happens a lot in the Loops fics) and got help from the locals. Specifically, they taught her how to not get her mind read (mental violation solved) and fixed her instincts back to what a wolf SHOULD have (which means she can't be compelled to do something, either by Alpha order or by Imprint.)
I thought that was all she needed to go from the time loops being hell to... better.

The fic-let I wrote involving Leah getting help in the MLPverse from the loopers there went down rather well, so I've started on-and-off writing other possibly amusing snippets.

For now, they're here:
http://sta.sh/0iy9vd1ljmd
1.1 is the MLPverse crossover, 1.2 and 1.3 are Twilight-canon only.

Time Loops fic stuff involving Leah

(Link)
Hi. I don't have a LiveJournal account, but my screen name is Saphroneth.
Now for the Leah stuff.
From a nascent set of time loops (AKA: how to do a lot of spitefics with Leah which are technically the same fic)

1.3

“I see you're back,” Charlie said, giving Edward a look. “You broke my little girl's heart when you left her, you know.”

Bella clutched onto Edward's arm.

Charlie sighed. “Well, you're back now. I suppose what matters is that Isabella is happy. Just – a warning, sonny.”

Edward raised an eyebrow.

“You hurt her again – or abuse her, or anything which looks too much like abuse... well, Bella, now's as good a time as any to tell you. We got a new dog.”

He whistled.

Something enormous, far too big to be a dog, lumbered out of the front room and squeezed into the hallway.

Charlie reached up and scratched the canine, just under her collar (bright pink with yellow flowers on it). “Just saying.”

“Chief Swan, are you threatening me?” Edward asked.

“No. Just promising.”

The 'dog' growled happily, leaning into the scratch, then fixed Edward with a cool regard that contained the solemn pledge of potential violence.

“Same for that Jacob kid, too,” Charlie added as an afterthought.

Why are you all such huge fans of Leah? I mean, she's a decent character and all, sympathetic and all that, but where are you guys pulling half of these traits? Since when is she a good leader? Or a planner? She was short-tempered, a fighter, and sypathtic. That was pretty much we saw of her. Why are you all obsessing over her?

Re: What the heck?

I can't speak for everyone else, but I like Mervin's fanon version of her, mostly. Also, canonically, Leah's the only halfway decent character in the entire series (with flaws, an arc, development, etc.). Plus, Leah constantly gets crapped on by Meyer. Hence, I'm a Leah fangirl.

This is probably a strange question, but is Leah's name pronounced 'Lee' or 'Lee-ah'? I've been saying 'Lee-ah' for all this time, and I seriously hope it's right.
(If not, it's probably due to different places- we say Leigh or Lee.)

I've always assumed it was 'Lee-ah', that is the traditional way to pronounce it, from Hebrew. There's no reason to think Meyer intended it to have an unusual pronunciation, especially if the character is in fact based on her sister - it's a Bible name, and Mormons are known for traditionalism.

So apparently, if they ever make a movie adaptation of Legend of Korra, fans want Julia Jones to play the title character. What are your thoughts on that?

My thoughts are; She definitely looks the part more than Nicola Peltz, and if this adaptation does happen and Julie gets the role, then we can perhaps take that as Leah leaving her world for one where she's better appreciated.

I badly want Julia Jones to play Sam in American Gods. And also Korra. Going to write a "fan" fic where Leah and vampire Charlie kills all the human eating vampires in between her studying pre law and she is a better daughter figure than Bella and totally awesome.
